Rio de Janeiro – Furnas Centrais Elétricas’s planning to increase in one thousand megawatts (MW) the share of wind power in its energy matrix and, to reach this goal, it will invest USD 5 billion until 2022.
The company also plans to generate solar power in all three of its wind parks and in some of its 21 hydroelectric plants, including Itumbiara, the largest one of the Petrobras’ subsidiary, with a installed capacity of 2,082 MW from six plants.
The wind plants would operate as complementary generation to the Furnas System, which operates, in addition to the 21 hydroelectric plants, two thermoelectric plants, three wind parks and over 29,000 km of transmission lines. The company also owns 55 substations, plus 27 substations operated through partnerships.
