São Paulo – Furniture maker Enele, from São Lourenço do Sul, city in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, plans on exporting to the Arab market. The company sold to Algeria just over five years ago, and now plans on restarting exports to the region. “The importer was in Brazil looking for suppliers, he saw Enele and purchased from us,” informed the company.
The furniture manufacturer says it is interested in exporting, despite currently not having a team that travels abroad prospecting clients. Their channel for sales to other countries is through trade fairs in Brazil and contacts with agents and foreign trade companies. In February Enele is participating in business roundtables with importers at the Brazilian Contemporary Home Furnishings Trade Show (Abimad), in São Paulo, and believes the event may bring business opportunities.
The company was started in 1984 by the couple Nivaldo Luiz Lazaron and Maria Inês de Almeida. The founders still work in the business, but it is the second generation who is now in command, in the hands of their four children. The entire production plant is located on the same place in the city of São Lourenço. There are three factory units, one for upholstery and chairs, one for MDF furniture and one for furniture in wood and hollow-core wood panels.
The furniture Enele produces are for living rooms and bedrooms. The raw materials used are solid wood, MDF and hollow-core wood panels, a structural panel composed of fine pressed wood particles and recycled paper pulp. The company’s production is varied. In upholstery there are more than 2,000 pieces per month.
The domestic market is where Enele finds it’s greatest consumers. Exports are less than 5% of the production volume. In Brazil, the products are sold in multi-brand stores. The countries that buy the Enele furniture are Chile and Angola. The products most sold in the international market are entertainment centers. Among the upholstery, demand is varied, they sell a bit of everything.
