São Paulo – The city of Goiânia is going to host the 1st Arab World Cinema Exhibition, on August 27th and 28th, at the Goiânia Ouro Municipal Centre – Cine. On the two days, ten films that were made in countries such as Qatar, Palestine, Egypt, France, Australia and the United States will be shown.
The event is being held through a partnership between the Institute of Arab Culture (Icarabe) and the Eldorado dos Carajás Cultural Centre.
In the Australian production "Hope in a Slingshot," filmmaker Hinka travels to the West Bank to try and uncover the reasons for the permanent conflict in that region, considering that in her home country, Australia, there are growing waves of racism against Arabs and Muslims.
Documentary film "Al Nakba" (The Catastrophe), in turn, approaches the period from 1799 to 1947, denouncing Britain’s role in the colonization of Palestine and the build-up to the so-called al nakba, the tragedy of Palestinian people.
The other films that comprise the exhibition are: La Terre Parle Arabe; Reel Bad Arabs, How Hollywood Vilifies a People; Selves and Others: A Portrait of Edward Said; About Baghdad; Writers on the Borders; Zigzigland; The Children of Ibdaa; and Door to the Sun.
