São Paulo – Jewellery producer GoldBacker, from the port city of Santos, in southeastern Brazil, is investing in prospecting the market in the Middle East. One of the company directors, João Carlos Santi, has just returned from a trip to the United Arab Emirates. "I spent 15 days in Dubai visiting importers and distributors. It is a market in which we plan to invest from now on," guaranteed Santi.
According to him, the intention at the industry, which already exports to the Arab country, is to establish a partnership with a local representative to help the company win new clients. "In Italy and the United States we already have local representatives and are having excellent results," he explained.
According to Santi, the company is recognized for its work with entwined gold thread.
Established in 1966, GoldBacker employs 110 people and sells its products to all the states in Brazil. Exports currently represent 20% of company revenues. The target is to reach around 10% in 2006.
This week GoldBacker was present in the 42nd edition of the National Fair of the Jewels, Watches and Related Articles Industry (Feninjer), in São Paulo. The fair brought together 150 Brazilian exhibitors and had a turnover of over R$ 100 million (US$ 45.7 million).
The GoldBacker stand was one of the ones that attracted the greatest attention from visitors. While they appreciated the new brand collections, buyers could listen to classical music played by a pianist. This was the way we found to make the space more interesting and pleasant. In the first day of the fair some people even confused the stand with a restaurant," explained the company director.
During the Feninjer six collections were released: Lolita, Flor de Lótus, Florata, Xanadu, Jale and Oliva. Collection Lolita is flowery and includes small petals and precious stones recalling a jovial and seductive romanticism. Flor de Lótus is inspired on the ephemeral movement of flower petals. The collection exhibits the transparencies of crystals and diamonds.
Jale, which means dewdrop, inspires this collection of many small drops in polished gold mixed with small colourful gems, also very shiny. The Xanadu line is inspired on the film by the same name. Attention to the fine shapes and delicate, shiny fine crystals and exuberant woven metal.
In the Oliva collection, green was the inspiration. The green of the Brazilian leaves, adorned by diamonds and white gold. Collection Florata, in turn, is inspired on romanticism and on contemporary fashion. This collection explores the volume of petals in polished gold and precious stones added to the glamour of woven gold, which is traditional in GoldBacker jewellery.
