Brasília – The federal government has announced that 55 new concessions of highways, railways, port terminals and power transmission lines will be offered to the private sector, plus renewal proposals for ongoing concessions. According to president Michel Temer the new projects will allow for BRL 45 billion (USD 14.43 billion) in new investments in the energy, transportation and sanitation sectors, creating 200,000 new direct and indirect jobs.
The announcement was made during the second meeting of the Council of the Investment Partnerships Program (PPI). The Ministry of Mines and Energy presented the bidding terms for 35 lots of energy transmission in 17 states, with investments totaling BRL 12.8 billion (USD 4.10 billion). The Ministry of Transportation, for its turn, listed concession projects of highways, railways and ports.
This will be the PPI’s second batch of concessions. In September, the government presented 35 projects involving airports, ports, railways, oil and gas, mining, energy and sanitation. Since then, three contracts were signed and seven concession and lease rounds were launched. Until the end of the year, other 20 bidding rounds of the PPI are expected.
