São Paulo – Brazilian medical and hospital products may have a greater presence in the Arab market. To increase the country’s participation in sector imports in the Arab countries, the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is going to promote on Monday (22), in São Paulo, seminar “Business Opportunities in the Arab Countries – Medical-Hospital Sector”.
Brazilian sector exports to the Arab countries, last year, totalled US$ 11.6 million, which represented 0.95% of all Brazilian medical-hospital sector sales worldwide and just 0.01% of all the medical and dentistry product sector purchases by the Arabs on the foreign market. Hospital furniture, X-Ray machines, incubators, among other products, are among the most required in the Arab nations.
According to the manager of the Market Development Department at the Arab Brazilian Chamber, Rodrigo Solano, one of the Arab countries the organisation has identified as potential for the sector is Syria. In 2008, when the Arab Brazilian Chamber promoted a mission to the Arab country, great demand for medical, hospital and dentistry equipment was identified. "There are many projects in the sector. Between 2001 and 2007, 25 licenses were approved for the construction of new hospitals in the country,” said Solano.
Apart from that, the manager pointed out that Syria is living a process of modernisation, which opens many doors for Brazilian products. And, to present medical and hospital equipment to the Syrians, the Arab Brazilian Chamber wants to invite Brazilian companies to participate in the Healthcare Fair, to take place in Damascus, from April 15th to 18th. Last year, the event included the participation of 125 medical and pharmaceutical companies from 42 countries.
At the seminar, Solano should present participants with information and important clues as to how to negotiate with the Arabs, their habits and customs and affinities with Brazil, as well as providing information about trade relations between Brazil and the Arab market. For further information about Brazilian participation in the fair, those interested may get in contact with the Foreign Trade Department at the organisation.
