The primary goal of the Open Doors Project: Portuguese for Immigrants (Projeto Portas Abertas: Português para Imigrantes) is to teach Portuguese to non-Brazilians residing in São Paulo or nearby cities. The course is also designed to help enrollees join the formal labor market and achieve legal status.
The course is available in Basic, Intermediate or Advanced modules. The City Hall will award a course completion certificate for students with an attendance rate of at least 75% per semester.
Course schedules will be made available soon, and classes will be taught by municipal school teachers.
To enroll, immigrants must go to the school they intend to take the course in. Units are available in the North, East and South sides of São Paulo. The enrollment form is available here. Enrollees unable to produce proof of residence can write a statement of residence instead.
