Rio de Janeiro – Industrial output was down 0.3% in Brazil in August from July. It was the second straight month-on-month drop for the indicator, which had lost 0.4% in the two months through August. The numbers are from the Monthly Industrial Survey made public this Tuesday (2) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
On the other hand, output was up 3.8% in the three months through August, 2% year-on-year in August, 2.5% year-to-date through August and 3.1% in the 12 months through August. The drop in August from July was driven by intermediate goods – industry inputs used by industry –, whose production slid by 2.1%, and by semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods, down 0.6%.
