Brasília – After the meeting between president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the Kuwaiti prime minister, Nasser Al-Sabah, today (22nd) in Brasília, the special advisor for international affairs to the Presidency of the Republic, Marco Aurélio Garcia, claimed that the delegation from the Arab country has expressed interest in investing in Brazil.
According to him, specific possibilities “will be brought to the table during talks with businessmen.” “I would like to call attention to the fact that Kuwait has a program similar to the Brazilian government’s Growth Acceleration Program.”
This year, the Arab country passed a bill for implementing a five-year investment plan that provides for US$ 25 billion to be invested each year. “Thus, there are plentiful possibilities of Brazilians taking part in construction work in Kuwait and of Kuwaitis investing here in Brazil, in fields such as foodstuffs and others,” added Garcia.
He also said that the Arab country may be a partner in works for the 2014 World Cup, because “like all Gulf countries, they are very football-oriented.” To Garcia, the visit of the Kuwaiti delegation of government officials and private sector representatives, headed by the prime minister, “is immensely relevant from the economic, commercial and investment-related perspectives.”
Garcia also said that Sabah “openly congratulated” the Brazilian government for having signed, alongside Turkey, an agreement with Iran on the Persian country’s nuclear program, even though the negotiation did not prevent the UN Security Council from imposing new sanctions on the Iranians. “They asserted that they maintain excellent relations with Iran and that they would like to see Brazil and Turkey’s initiatives to actually thrive,” he declared.
