São Paulo – Japan is interested in importing Brazilian anhydrous alcohol for use in their alcohol and petrol mixing program. A mission of Japanese cooperative members, Zen-Noh, had a two hour meeting with Ministry of Agriculture Sugar and Alcohol department director Ângelo Bressan yesterday (05), when they discussed the matter.
According to information supplied by the ministry, business with Japan may represent the opening of a yearly market of 1.8 billion litres. Just to give an idea, in the whole of last year, Brazil exported a total of 757 million litres and the sector hopes are that this year export should total 1.5 billion litres.
According to the ministry, in 2003 the Japanese government authorized the mixture of 3% anhydrous alcohol to their petrol. To Bressan, Brazil is a strong candidate to supply the Japanese demand . "We guaranteed the Japanese mission that alcohol is a safe product, easy to produce, and cheap,” stated Bressan, according to the ministry press department.
Still according to the ministry, Zen-Noh supplies fuel to around 5% of the Japanese market, or a total of 9.5 billion litres of petrol a year.
