São Paulo – Jordan is planning to reopen its schools, on September 1 and its universities in October, state-run news outlet Petra quoted minister of State for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh (pictured) and minister of Health Saad Jaber as saying during a press conference.
Adaileh said the government is working with the National Center for Security and Crisis Management to assess and update reopening plans. Jordan is currently in the so-called blue zone (moderate risk) regarding Covid-19, with 1,398 confirmed cases and 11 deaths from the disease.
The administration is about to transfer some sectors formerly in the green zone (low risk) to the blue zone. “There are some sectors, such as schools and universities, that are allowed to work upon reaching the green phase (low risk), but they will be transferred to the blue zone (moderate risk) to enable them to work during the next phase, with an emphasis on adherence to prevention and precaution measures, and following appropriate health protocols,” Adaileh said during the conference on Monday evening (17).
According to the minister for Media Affairs, there will be no lockdown or curfews at this point, and that isolation and lockdown decisions will be taken at the level of cities or areas with high cases of infection, as is the case with the city of Ramtha.
He called on citizens to observe physical distancing, wear face masks and avoid gatherings, especially during this weekend. He also said penalties will be enforced in case of failure to comply.
