São Paulo – Tourist numbers from Brazil were up 124% year-on-year in November in Jordan, Jordan Tourism Board’s Brazilian communication and marketing provider (GVA) reported.
The figure includes tourists spending a day as well as those having overnight stays. The number of Brazilians who spent a single day in Jordan increased by 181%, while those who spent one or more nights climbed 105%. Having travelers spend more than just a day in the Arab country had been one of the GVA’s goals since it got appointed to promote the destination in Brazil in the beginning of this year.
“More and more, we are showcasing a wide range of attractions, including history and culture and the unique natural beauty of Jordan. People aren’t just taking quick trips to see Petra; many travelers are choosing to stay longer and explore other locations. Proof of this is such a big hike in overnight stays,” a press release quoted GVA director Gisele Abrahão as saying.
Brazilian tourist numbers were also up 78% year-to-date through September, according to Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
Petra (pictured above), for instance, welcomed 10,000 Brazilian visitors through September, up 60% from 6,242 through September 2018. Abrahão said the city remains a key destination because apart from its best-known landmark – The Treasury –, Petra features other ancient buildings that require at least two days to be seen. Elsewhere in Jordan are the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum Desert and the capital Amman.
