Dead Sea, Jordan – Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce president Salim Taufic Schahin discussed bilateral cooperation with the prime minister of Jordan, Nader Dahabi, on Wednesday (11th), at a meeting during the International Investment Conference of Jordan, promoted in the Dead Sea region.
Dahabi pointed out that Brazil currently has a very important economy for the global scenery and that his country would like to make use of the Brazilian success story in different areas.
He pointed out that he has already discussed the matter with king Abdullah II, with whom Schahin and the remaining members of the Brazilian trade delegation in Jordan are going to meet on Wednesday.
Early into the meeting, the prime minister said that his country is interested in receiving the parts warehouse that Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft maker, plans to open in the Middle East.
The project was announced last week by the company’s vice president for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, José Luis Molina, during a visit to Amman. The company has not yet disclosed which country in the region should host the enterprise.
"We have experience, logistics and direct connections with the places [where Embraer aircraft operate]", said Dahabi. Several companies in the region operate jets produced by Embraer, among them Royal Jordanian, EgyptAir and Saudi Arabian Airlines.
The prime minister also discussed cooperation in the agricultural area, a sector that is very strong in Brazil, and added that Jordan has different infrastructure "megaprojects" open to foreign participation. He also pointed out that the country has been serving as a gateway into Iraq.
Schahin said that the Arab Brazilian Chamber is available to bring together public and private organisations in both countries. In the field of agriculture, for example, he mentioned the possible cooperation with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and added that construction companies from Brazil may participate in infrastructure works.
Promotion
The Arab Brazilian Chamber president also met with the Jordanian minister of Industry and Trade, Amer Al Hadidi, who wants to promote business and investment opportunities in his country. "We want to promote the projects we have,” said the minister.
Apart from connection with the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, he mentioned enterprises in the areas of renewable energy, water treatment, information technology and telecommunications. "We must establish a channel for connection to promote these projects,” said Hadidi.
The meetings also included the participation of Arab Brazilian Chamber director Mustapha Abdouni, who is also the honorary consul of Jordan in São Paulo, and Nour Al Hmoud, of the Jordan Investment Board.
