São Paulo – A trade delegation from Jordan will be in Brazil this week to exhibit at the fair of the São Paulo Supermarket Industry Association (Apas), set to begin on Monday (2nd) in São Paulo, and to seek out deals involving foodstuffs. The group is organized and led by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce. The 12-strong delegation will comprise Chamber executives and food importers/exporters.
The delegation will include professionals from companies including Hararh Trading, Khader Al Amouri & Sons Co, Hijazi and Ghoshe Co, Royal House for Eletronics and others. According to the Market Intelligence coordinator with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, João Paulo Paixão, the executives are predominantly importers. Some of the businesses they represent rank among Jordan’s biggest importers.
Paixão explains that the idea of going to the Apas fair came up during talks between Jordan Chamber and Arab Brazilian Chamber staff and board members. The Jordanians will occupy three stands at an Apas Fair pavilion organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber, alongside executives from other Arab countries such as Egypt, the UAE and Tunisia.
Apart from exhibiting at Apas, the Jordanians will engage in other trade- and market/client prospecting-related activities in São Paulo. Tuesday (3rd) will see them attend a meeting at the Arab Chamber offices, where they will be given information on the Brazilian market and its trade relations with Jordan, and on Wednesday (4th) and Thursday (5th) they will have meetings with Arab Chamber member companies.
Exports from Brazil to Jordan have increased so far this year. From January to March, Brazilian companies grossed USD 46.8 million from sales to the Arab country, a 7.3% increase over Q1 2015. The top-selling products were poultry, maize, beef and coffee.
Sales from Jordan to Brazil do not amount to much. Jordan-based enterprises collected a meager USD 992,000 from exports to the Brazilian market in Q1 this year, down 14% from USD 1.1 million in the year-ago quarter. Sales consisted primarily of fertilizer, clothing and chemicals.
