São Paulo – Two Brazilians earned podium spots at the GKA Freestyle-Kitesurfing World Cup, which took place in Neom, Saudi Arabia. Manoel Soares became the world champion in the men’s category. In the women’s, Brazilian Mikaili Sol clinched the silver medal. The event started on October 19 and ended on Sunday (23).
Kitesurfing is a water sport in which athletes maneuver a board pulled by a kite. Athletes compete in different categories. The medals won by Brazilians this month were in the freestyle category.
The GKA Kite World Tour is the organization that holds global events in the sport and has Qatar Airways as a partner and official airline for the competitions. In Saudi lands, the Cup occurred within the Neom Beach Games 2022, a project bringing five sports to the Arab country.

Manoel Soares also won another prize in March this year on the stage of the Freestyle-Kitesurfing GKA World Cup held in Colombia. The athlete comes from the Brazilian state of Piauí and has also competed in other tournaments in Brazil and abroad.
Mikaili Sol is only 17 years old and has an extensive experience in the sport. In her first competition, she became the junior world champion. At the age of 13, the athlete entered the professional circuit. Among the many championships in which she participated, there were competitions in Morocco in 2018 and 2019. She also won the Colombia stage in March this year.
The beach of Taíba, in Ceará, Brazil, will host the next stage of the GKA in November. The freestyle category disputes will occur from November 8 to 12. And from 23 to 27, it will be the turn of the kitesurf and hydrofoil-freestyle athletes.
