São Paulo – Kuwait has become self-sufficient in egg production. The information was announced by the director of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) of the Arab country. According to Mishal Al-Graifah, the country will do everything possible to achieve the goals of the strategic development plan Kuwait Vision 2035.
The executive gave the statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the Gulf nation’s official news agency, this week. Al-Graifah claims the poultry industry‘s self-sufficiency and stability in local production were due to the subsidies the sector received.
In addition to working on poultry projects, the PAAAFR also reported the fisheries sector’s resources are growing. It is estimated production is meeting 25% of the national demand for fish and over 50% for shrimp.
Poultry industry
Kuwait has been investing in growing its poultry industry. One of the institutions supporting this initiative is The Kuwait Institute For Scientific Research (KISR).
The independent research body has been working with Kuwait’s poultry industry for the past three decades. The goal is to raise the quality of products made from raw inputs and make the local sector more competitive.
The projects resulted in the development of feeds to increase the quality and healthiness of broiler poultry sold to the public. The KISR has worked on developing biosecurity measures, farm management plans, and improvements to poultry facilities. According to KISR, the result was the adoption of practices to mitigate health risks for the Kuwaiti public.
