São Paulo – Kuwait celebrated two dates last Wednesday (19) in Brasília – the National Day the and the Liberation of Kuwait. Kuwait’s embassy received guests and officials for the event. The dates are widely celebrated in Kuwait.
Kuwait’s ambassador in Brazil, Nasser Riden Al-Motairi, talked at the event about the country’s relations to Brazil and said there’s a strong interest in fostering trade and economic cooperation and expanding direct investment. He said that Kuwait has strived to create bridges of cooperation with all the peoples of the world.
He pointed out recent developments that marked Brazil-Kuwait relations, such as the launching of a stamp celebrating the 51 years of diplomatic relations between the countries, Kuwait Cultural Week last December in São Paulo, and the visit of the minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Tereza Cristina, and congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro to Kuwait last year.
Kuwait National Day celebrates the anniversary of the coronation of Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah in February 25, 1961, whose family rules Kuwait until now. Kuwait Liberation Day celebrates February 26, 1991, which marked the end of the Gulf War.
Authorities attending the event in Brasília included secretary of International Trade and Relations of Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Orlando Ribeiro, and director of the Middle East Department of Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sydnei Romeiro.
