São Paulo – The Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) is holding the Kuwait Investment Forum on March 08 and 09 to attract companies from several countries and industries to funnel their funds into the Gulf country. KDIPA told ANBA this Monday (01) that the country wishes to showcase opportunities in multiple sectors in a bid to diversify its economy. The lion’s share of Kuwaiti revenues originates from oil extraction.
Kuwait has an investment plan worth roughly USD 103 billion for 2015-2020. The funds will be allocated primarily to transportation, communication, urban planning and development, education, healthcare, energy, oil and oil products and the financial sector. The government hopes the bulk of investment will come from private players.
KDIPA said Kuwait is taking measures to strengthen foreign investment inflows. It ensures that investors from other countries will find flexible investment regulations and a safe legal framework. The organization claims it will provide benefits to foreigners, among them allowing 100% business ownership by foreigners. Gulf countries usually require foreign investors to find a local partner in order to operate in their territories.
The forum will be divided into themed sessions throughout the event’s two days. The first day will feature the sessions “Foundation and Prospects of Economic & Developmental Policy,” “Why Invest in Kuwait Now?” and “Modern Legislation for an Attractive Investment Environment.”
Sessions in the second day will be “Potential & Lucrative Investment Opportunities,” “Kuwait – a Global Economic & Humanitarian Player,” “Financing Investment” and “Open Dialogue – Future of Investment for a Sustainable Development.”
In addition to the official schedule, attendees will be able to convene with KDIPA and government officials for in-depth information on available opportunities. Speakers will include Foreign Affairs minister Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the undersecretary to the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, Al-Zain Al-Sabah, and the executive chairman of Kuwait’s National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Mohammad Al-Zuhair.
