Kuwait City – Kuwait’s emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was awarded this Monday (29) in the national capital a certificate of merit from the World Bank for his work towards local and international economic and social development, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
The honor was bestowed by the World Bank’s deputy governor for the East and North Africa, Ferid Belhaj. KUNA quoted the emir as saying Kuwait helps fund the World Bank’s poverty eradication actions since 1962, when it became a World Bank member country.
A year earlier, in 1961, Kuwait established its Fund for Arab Economic Development, which has since contributed to funding projects in over 120 countries.
