São Paulo – Liziane Richter, a leather clothing brand in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has broken into the Arab countries and begun exporting to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. The brand sold its summer collection to stores in both countries during the industry expo Who’s Next last September in Paris.
“It was our first international event and we will be there again in January to showcase our winter collection,” says the brand’s Style director Camila Grassi. The brand is 14 years old and had sold to Bolivia and France in the past, but was not exporting anything lately.
The export-friendly scenario and the perception that there is a demand from abroad drove the company to attend the event in Europe. “Because of the strong dollar and the fact that international buyers had visited our website, we decided to participate,” she explains.
Grassi tells that, generally, each collection features some 80 items. The ones sold to Arab stores are mostly regular and Chanel-style jackets, skirts and shirts. The items are made from goat leather and feature handmade details, braids, cutouts and rope-like woven details.
Liziane Richter clothing is already available from the Madame Chic store in Cairo and from a store in Dubai. In addition to the deals done with Arabs, the Paris event led to sales to the United States, Turkey, Argentina, Spain, France and Taiwan.
Grassi also claims the brand is interested in expanding into other Middle East and North Africa countries. “We want to find a commercial agent in the region,” the executive says. According to her, the brand wants to reach countries with high-end market niches. At points of sale, Liziane Richter clothes should be in the USD 600-to-USD 1,000 price range.
Liziane Richter has a concept store in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul. It has two own stores and its items are sold at 130 points of sale.
