São Paulo – Brazil will feature prominently in the 5th World Congress of Plastic Surgeons of Lebanese Descent to run from next Thursday (19) to the 21st in Beirut. At least a dozen Brazilian doctors will participate in the congress focused on plastic surgery. Pictured above, the congress that took place in Brazil in 2017.
The honoree this year will also be a Brazilian doctor, plastic surgeon Ricardo Baroudi. Son of a Lebanese couple, he developed the Plastic Surgeon Department of the Medical School of Unicamp, where he was chief until 1973.
Baroudi was also founder and president of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of Lebanese Descent. The surgeon died in 2018 but remains an influence for professionals such as Ricardo Cavalcanti Ribeiro, who’ll lecture at the Congress. “It’s interesting that the honoree is from São Paulo. Ricardo Baroudi was a reference and the organization is planning to give cedar seeds to some speakers to plant in his honor, which is common around here,” the doctor, who’ll participate in the event and is already in Beirut, told ANBA.
Ribeiro is a professor and the head of the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Department of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Unirio). This will be his first time speaking at a Lebanese event. “I usually go to many congresses, but I have never gone to this one. For me, it has been a unique experience. I’m amazed with the country and the development of the specialty here,” he said.
Brazilians at the Congress
The event invites professionals of Lebanese descent or no who are references in plastic surgery. Brazilian lecturers include Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery president Níveo Steffen. The program also includes Marcelo Daher, José Carlos Daher, Roger Fakhouri, Romeu Fadul, Isabel Habeyche Cardoso, Alexandre Mansur, José Carlos Marques de Faria, André Matos, Fabio Nahas, Guilherme Yazbeck, and Ricardo Cavalcanti Ribeiro.
Ribeiro will give three lectures starting on the 19th at 10:20 am on body contouring with the lecture ‘Achieving Best Results in Abdominoplasty.’ On the 20h at 2:30 pm, the doctor will address ‘Buttocks Surgery Principles and Indications.’ At last, on September 21 at 11 am, he’ll talk about ‘Aesthetic Approaches for Breast Reconstruction’ on surgeries made after breast treatment cancer.
