São Paulo – Lebanon’s Université Antonine will host a Brazil Day on Tuesday (15), with activities at its main campus Hadat Baadba, in the city of Baadba. May 15th marks the annual celebration of the university’s patron saint, Our Lady of the Seeds, and the theme picked for 2018 was Brazil.
The campus will host a wide array of activities, including typical foods, dance and music performances and a costume contest. A team of Brazilians will play a university team in a soccer match, and handicraft by Arteiras, a group of Brazilian expatriate women in Lebanon, will be on show at stands.
Regional attractions will also be featured, including DJ Mincer, digital influencer and comedian Ghayd Chammas, a talk show with Hicham Haddad, Bonita Saade and Jad Bou Kalam, and musical performances by the Chehade Brothers, Tony Hana and Bilal.
The Embassy of Brazil in Lebanon is supporting the event. It organized the Brazilian attractions in partnership with groups associated with the Brazilian Community, including Arteiras, União Líbano-Brasileira and the Brazilian restaurant Lisas Cuisine.
According to the head of the Embassy for culture and education Thiago Oliveira, last March a group of Université Antonine students and managers visited the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center for a workshop on Brazil. That led to this Brazil Day event.
The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Center is the education and culture arm of the Embassy of Brazil in Lebanon. “Just the fact that students have come to the cultural center to try and understand Brazilian culture beyond stereotypes is a victory,” Oliveira told ANBA.
Thiago Oliveira believes that the Brazil Day will create a richer picture of Brazil at the university. According to him, events of this kind promote several aspects of Brazil, from tourism to products and student exchange. The university informed that the Tuesday event is open to the public.
Université Antonine is a Catholic Lebanese teaching institution established by the Antonin Maronite Order. It offers courses in Engineering, Sport Sciences, Music and Musicology, Public Health, etc.
