São Paulo – Lebanon’s Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (Usek) is looking to get young Latin Americans, especially ones of Lebanese descent, to attend its International Summer School, made available for foreign students every year during the mid-year holidays, when the weather is hotter in the Northern Hemisphere.
This year, the course will span four weeks, from June 25 to July 20, in Jounieh, where Usek’s main campus is located. Enrolments will be accepted until April 30. All persons 18 or older are eligible, but the primary target are students and professors.
The 120-hour course will cover the history, politics and culture of Lebanon and the Middle East, including cultural, historical and social studies, Arabic language, folk music and dance, and enology, in addition to social outings such as dinners, field trips and film screenings.
According to Roberto Khatlab, director of the Usek’s Latin American Studies and Cultures Center (LASCC), students will take tours across the country, including onsite history lessons at archaeological sites.
Classes will be taught in English and students will get a certificate upon completion. The USD 2,000 fee includes classes, on-campus accommodation and extracurricular activities. Travel and other costs are to be met by the students.
The course is organized by the Usek’s Department of International Relations and Continuing Learning Center. Usek is a private Catholic university established by the Lebanese Maronite Order. Usek has over 8,000 students in its main campus in Jounieh and in facilities in other Lebanese cities.
