São Paulo – Logistics company PGL, headquartered in São Paulo, wants to increase Brazilian shipments to the Arab world. Currently, the Arab countries represent 20% of the cargo throughput by the company, which works in partnership with Aramex, headquartered in Jordan. “Aramex, with great presence in the Arab world, and PGL, with solid operation and great knowledge of operations in Brazil, are a key to the development of opportunities between both regions,” stated the sales executive at PGL, Tiago Amaral.
To disclose the activities developed by the organisation and to seek partnerships with Brazilian exporters, the executive was yesterday (3rd) at the offices of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, in São Paulo. According to him, with the crisis, “the world is seeking new markets”.
The partnership between Aramex and PGL has been in operation since the Brazilian company was established, in 1998. Apart from Jordan and other Arab countries, Aramex has offices in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Canada, and has been operating in the logistics market for 30 years. According to Amaral, PGL Brazilian shipments to the Arab world have been rising and diversifying. Up to a short while ago, accessories and parts for the auto industry were the main items, but there has now been an increase of shipments of shoes, furniture and machinery.
The PGL shipments to the Arab countries may be by air or sea, taking two days or three weeks, respectively. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait are the main destinations for products shipped by the company. On the other hand, the organisation imports into Brazil, from the Arab world, food products as well as articles for decoration and personal use.
Aramex is the second largest partner for PGL, which, through its partnerships, has offices in 98 countries. According to Amaral, the company focus is to work on door-to-door logistics. The PGL yearly turnover is US$ 70 million. Among the main clients are Zara, in the textile sector, carmaker Fiat and Ferrero Rocher, a producer of sweets and chocolates.
