São Paulo – During the largest food show in the Middle East, Gulfood, which ended last 21 in Dubai World Trade Centre, United Arab Emirates, beef and poultry exporters from Brazil drafted deals worth of USD 920 million for the next few months and closed USD 57 million in sales at the show itself.
The numbers are the sum of business expectations released by Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (ABIEC, acronym in Portuguese) and Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), concerning companies that exhibited in their spaces in the show, an initiative made in partnership with Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brasil).
ABPA reported this Wednesday (27) that Brazilian poultry and egg exporters have made deals worth of USD 40.2 million. The sixteen agribusinesses that participated in the ABPA action generated more USD 660 million in projected business for the next 12 months. As an initiative, ABPA served more than 4,000 shawarmas and almost 2,000 omelets to visitors in its space in Gulfood.
On the other hand, ABIEC, which covers beef exports, released this Thursday (28) that during the 5-day event, deals worth of USD 17 million were made. The expectation for the next months is more than USD 260 million in businesses. The association offered the traditional tasting session with over 600 kg of beef as part of the Brazilian Beef project, where 16 associate companies were present.

For ABIEC, the action in Gulfood was also to boost the perception of Brazilian product quality in the Arab market. Last January, Saudi Arabia discontinued imports of poultry from five Brazilian plants. ABPA representatives went to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to try a rapprochement before going to the show in the UAE.
“In addition to the deals closed, participation in Gulfood has fully met our goals to reinforce relations with local stakeholders. We have a long-standing relation with the halal market, and this action in Dubai allowed us to make this partnership more solid,” said Francisco Turra, ABPA president in the release. The association still does not have a position from the Saudi government on the discontinuation of the purchases from the five companies.
