São Paulo – Two important medical equipment fairs in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, have established exhibition spaces for the products of Brazilian companies. For the 14th consecutive year, Arab Health, the world’s second largest healthcare fair in the world, will have a Brazilian pavilion, as will the new event MedLab, also to be held at the emirate’s Convention Center.
Focused on laboratory medicine equipment, MedLab gained size and is no longer part of Arab Health starting this year. “The organizers are the same, but from now on it will be held separately. For this edition, seven Brazilian companies are confirmed, against five last year,” says Laísa França, trade promotion coordinator of the Brazilian Medical, Dental, Hospital and Laboratory Equipment Industries Association (Abimo).
The Brazilian space will have 72 square meters and will host the companies Bioclin, Biomedtech, Diagnostek, Indrel, Labtest, LB Diagnóstica and Lupetec. According to França, products such as lab tests, in vitro diagnostic and clinical analysis equipment are the ones in greater demand by the Arabs. Bioclin, for instance, will launch at the fair, for the veterinary sector, products of molecular biology and equine anemia.
“The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are the markets that seek Brazilian products the most,” says the coordinator, who avoided making a business forecast for the new fair, scheduled for February 6 to 9. “We will measure from now on,” she explains.

Forecasts for the volume of business during the Arab Health fair set to take place from January 30 to February 2 point to USD 13 million in new deals, with the expected figure including the 12 subsequent months to the event. “It’s the same amount of last year, but now leaving out the deals closed by the companies that will now exhibit at MedLab,” says França.
According to her, in 2016 around USD 1 million were the volume of deals done during the Arab Health – the rest came later as a result of the contacts made during the fair.
The Brazilian pavilion will have 460 square meters, the same as last year, divided between 32 companies: Atrasorb, Baumer, BCF, Biomecânica, BR GOODS, Carci, Casex, CBEMED, Corcam, Deltronix, DFV, Drillermed, FANEM, GMI, Hospimetal, Hospitalar, Hpbio, IBRAMED, Impromed, Indusbello, Instramed, Loktal, Magnamed, Medicone, Olidef, Óssea, Phoenix, Samtronic, Scitech, Sismatec, Timpel and Traumec.
“We will also have an area for Abimo, with support for the other exhibititors,” says França. Participation in fairs is part of the Brazilian Health Devices Project, a partnership between the association with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
At Arab Health, the most sought after Brazilian products are neonatal incubators, physiotherapy and cosmetic equipment and products for ICU and surgery. The United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Saudi Arabia are the most relevant clients for Brazilian companies.
The majority of people attending the fairs are representatives of distributors that spread the products made in Brazil to other countries in the region. Arab Health is the international fair that generates the most deals to Brazilian companies, according to França.
According to Abimo, in 2015 Brazil exported USD 778 million in medical equipment, with USD 12 million going to Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Qatar, Syria, Turkey, Kuwait, Lebanon and Oman. “Near 2% of the purchases by the Middle East are of Brazilian equipment and it’s a growing demand,” concludes França.
