São Paulo – The number of mergers and acquisitions hit a record in Brazil year-over-year until June 2018, according to data shown this Monday (20) by KPMG. The period saw 906 deals, the highest number since 1994, when the survey began to monitor M&A. Tech companies (picture above) played a major role in M&A done earlier this year.
In 2018’s first half, there were 461 deals against 385 done in last year’s first half, up nearly 20%. Most of the deals – 232 – were done among Brazilian companies. Foreign companies acquiring Brazilian companies came in second with 163 deals.
The sectors that stood out were the internet, with 73 deals from January to June, followed by information technology, with 55 deals, and oil and gas and services companies, each with 38 deals.
