São Paulo – Morocco will be the host country of the Club World Cup next year, the FIFA Council Meeting announced Friday (16) in Qatar, where the World Cup 2022 is taking place. The Federation has also announced the tournament will take place from February 1 to 11.
Brazilian club Flamengo will compete in the World Cup. The club secured a spot by winning the Copa Libertadores. The Cup will also feature Spain’s Real Madrid, United States’ Seattle Sounders and New Zealand’s Auckland City. Asia’s representative has not been confirmed yet.
Africa is represented by both Egypt’s Al-Ahly and Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca (pictured). Wydad is the defending champion, but since it has a place secured for being from the host country, Africa’s runner up Al-Ahly is participating, too.
Morocco was one of the major highlights of the World Cup Qatar as it was the first Arab and African national team to reach the tournament’s semifinals. The country lost the chance to compete in the finals when it was defeated by the French national team. On Saturday (17) the Moroccans will play Croatia for the third place.
