São Paulo – Typical dishes from several different cuisines and cultural presentations will be the main attractions of the 1st Nations’ Party scheduled for Saturday (3rd) and Sunday (4th) by the Warehouses and General Storage Company of São Paulo (Ceagesp). The Arabs will be represented by belly dancing presentations.
Representatives from Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Germany and Portugal cuisines will take their specialties to Ceagesp’s table. The Arabs are still negotiating their participation in the event with typical dishes. An Italian restaurant is expected to participate and represent the European country.
According to the advisor to Ceagesp’s sustainability department and one of the organizers of the event, Carlos José dos Santos, Ceagesp used to hold typical parties 15 years ago and now is resuming the initiative. “For some time now Ceagesp has had the proposal to transform itself and join the cuisine and culture agenda of the city. The Nations’ Party is the opportunity to display the culture of peoples”, he said.
Ceagesp is linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply and is the largest food warehouse center in Latin America. Besides being a food storage and distribution center, the Company also performs social work. The revenues from the event will be used in the education and training workshops offered by the organization, among them cuisine, carpentry and recycling courses. Admission is free and Ceagesp will collect non-perishable food donated by the visitors and pass them on to charity organizations.
There are some restaurants, based in Ceagesp, that already take part in events. Among them are restaurants that serve Japanese dishes, such as temaki, and others that serve pork and sausage sandwiches. Some of them will take part in the event. Others that will be there come from several places in the city and some from near Ceagesp, which is located in the Vila Leopoldina neighborhood, in western São Paulo.
Besides cuisine, the Nations’ Party will feature cultural presentations. There will be a belly dancing presentation on Saturday, at 4:30 PM, as well as Indian and Flamenco dances. A São Paulo carnival samba school will represent Brazilian culture and a Japanese group will play taiko, a percussion instrument similar to a drum.
