Brasília – The director of the Department of Promotion and Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Nair Xavier, says that some really big growth is expected in the sector in the short term. By the end of 2006, domestic boardings should jump around 50%, rising from an estimated total of 40 million in 2005 to 65 million annually in 2006, while the number of foreign tourists arriving in Brazil should more than double, jumping from 4 million this year to around 9 million in 2006.
The bright outlook for 2006, and strong performance so far this year, is being celebrated by the ministry with a special Tourism Week program that ends tomorrow.
