Brasília – Brazil’s federal, state and local governments saw a BRL 9.444 billion (USD 2.223 billion) primary surplus in October, the Brazilian Central Bank reported this Friday (29). It was the widest result for the month since 2016.
Year-to-date through October, the surplus ran at BRL 33.047 billion (USD 7.781 billion), down from BRL 51.523 billion (USD 12.131 billion) through October 2018.
In the 12 months through October, the primary deficit amounted to BRL 89.782 billion (USD 21.139 billion), or 1.27% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – the sum of all goods and services produced in the country.
The primary deficit target for this year is BRL 132 billion (USD 31 billion).
