São Paulo – Company OGX announced today (11th) that it has discovered hydrocarbons in the Eocene section of the well 1-OGX-4-RJS, located in shallow waters in the southern portion of the Campos Basin. The well is part of the block BM C-42, of which OGX owns a 100% stake. The eocenic portion of the soil comprises a layer formed from 55 million to 33 million years ago.
The hydrocarbon column has roughly 90 metres, with net pay (possibility of containing oil) of 17 metres in sandstone reservoirs in optimal conditions of permo-porosity. The well should be drilled to a total depth estimated at 3,400 metres.
"The finding once again makes clear the efficiency of the petroleum exploration system in this portion of the Campos Basin, as well as the success of our exploratory strategy for the area," stated Paulo Mendonça, the general executive officer of OGX.
The OGX-4 well is located approximately 79 kilometres off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of approximately 150 metres.
