São Paulo – On the Arabic Language Day celebrated on Monday (18), the U.N. culture agency UNESCO hosted in its headquarters in Paris a presentation of the Arab Latinos! project dubbed “Arab Latinos!: The Arab Mark in Latin America and the Caribbean.” The program promotes the language and discusses its influence in the culture of the region.
Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) Communication and Marketing vice president Silvia Antibas participates in Arab Latinos! and is in Paris with other members of the project to plan the following five years. She said that the auditorium where the Arab Latinos! was presented was packed due to the interest of the Arabic Language Day attendees in learning about it.
A presentation of the Arab Latinos! was given to the audience of the Arabic Language Days, said Antibas. Speakers included a representative from Saudi Arabia’s Sultan bin Abdulaziz al Saud Foundation. “Following our presentation, he said how proud he is of the project and how it is evolving well. People came from other countries to talk to us into joining the project,” Antibas told ANBA.
The Arab Latinos! presents the influence of the Arabic and the Arab culture in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico. It aims to foster dialogue between cultures in Latin America and the Arab countries.
This year, UNESCO chose the topic “Arabic – the Language of Poetry and Arts,” to celebrate it. The agency held talks with researchers, students, scholars, and leaders of international institutions to honor the Arab poetry and arts. Besides roundtables on the language, an exhibition is being held in UNESCO with the achievements earned in Arabic studies by the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Program for the Arabic Language until Friday (22).
