São Paulo – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil published on Wednesday (29) a press release welcoming the official announcements made by Spain, Ireland and Norway on Tuesday (28) recognizing the Palestinian state.
“The growing number of countries that recognize the State of Palestine is a significant historical sadvance in meeting the aspirations of that people for peace, freedom and self-determination,” says the statement. The ministry pointed out that the three countries add to more than 140 others, including, since 2010, Brazil, to recognize it.
Support for Palestine
The ministry also urges all other countries that have not yet done so to recognize the Palestinian state. “Brazil also reaffirms that it advocates for a two-State solution, with an independent and viable State of Palestine living side by side with Israel, in peace and security, within the 1967 borders, which includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” it says.
