São Paulo – Last April 23 – the National Day of Choro Music in Brazil – saw an Arab radio station pay tribute to the genre. Ajial, a popular station in Palestine, aired the show featuring choro – aka chorinho – music, in partnership with Brazil’s Representative Office in Ramallah.
One of the foremost choro composers was mentioned: Alfredo da Rocha Vianna Filho, nickname Pixinguinha, was a composer, instrumentalist, conductor and arranger, born in Brazil, 1897. The life story of this chorinho icon is retold in an archival collection organized by Instituto Moreira Salles.
