Rio de Janeiro – Petrobras informed today (27) that oil has been found in the first well drilled in ultra-deep waters in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. According to the state-owned oil company, the quality of the oil is similar to that found in deep waters in Campos Basin.
“The existence of great volumes has been confirmed in the more distant regions of the basin, and the volumes are higher than those found in Guaricema and Dourado fields, in shallow waters. Figures obtained after testing show the presence of light oil," according to the Petrobras press statement.
The state-owned oil company adds that data collected at the field up to now "are enough to attest the discovery of a new oil province in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin” (check map).
The area is explored by the consortium that includes Petrobras (with 60%) and IBV-Brasil (40%). Petrobras says the consortium should proceed with activities and investment, with the drilling of other pioneer wells and the elaboration of a plan for evaluation of the discovery, yet to be defined by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel Agency (ANP).
