Rio de Janeiro – Brazil’s state-run oil company Petrobras began importing aviation fuel and diesel oil to make up for reduced availability stemming from the fire that broke out on August 20 in its Paulínia Refinery (Replan), one of the biggest facilities in the country.
Petrobras’ executive manager for Logistics, Claudio Mastella, said that within a short timeframe the company expects to import five batches of diesel, to a total of 1.5 million barrels, and one batch of aviation fuel to replenish its stockpiles.
But the increase in diesel imports will not lead to a hike in domestic prices, since the government agreed not to raise diesel prices in order to bring a trucker strike to an end.
Mastella said that while Replan will go back online this week, Petrobras might import more product if necessary.
