Rio de Janeiro – Last Sunday (21), Petrobras reached a daily production record of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) with 2.29 million barrels. The previous record was from December 27, 2010, when the state-owned company produced 2.26 million barrels.
According to the company, the production record was reached because of the installation of nine platforms in 2013 and 2014, in the Santos and Campos basins. Besides, there were efficiency gains with old platforms, which already operated in the Campos basin, and from operational improvements in plants in North and Northeast.
Petrobras also broke an oil production record in the pre-salt layer, when it reached the 700 thousand daily barrels on December 16. According to the company, the result was achieved with the contribution of 34 producer wells. From these, 16 are located in the Santos basin and account for 61% of the total volume produced. The rest of them (18) are located in the Campos basin and account to 39%.
The oil is extracted from the pre-salt layer through 12 different platforms, with eight of them operating exclusively in these oil reservoirs, which rest under a thick salt layer located under the ocean bed.
