Sao Paulo – Arab importers, distributors and retailers interested in talking business with Brazil-based converted plastic product suppliers can register for online B2Bs until September 16. The meetings will take place from September 20 to October 7 with 15 Brazilian companies.
The B2Bs are to be hosted by Think Plastic Brazil, an international promotion project carried out by Brazil’s National Plastic Institute (INP) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) in partnership with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).
According to information supplied by Think Plastic Brazil, talks will focus on construction and housewares and will encompass products like bathroom fittings, office supplies, cleaning products, toys, chairs, showerheads, pipes, faucets, and cutlery.
The list also includes products such as household and industrial ladders, valves, sealing discs, sealings, plastic bags, bathroom cabinets, cases, plastic spatula, box-sealing tape, paint rollers, floors, brushes, cables, and others.
The B2Bs are part of an initiative that Think Plastic Brazil started developing with the ABCC last year. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has come up with an internationalization strategy based on the digital world, and plastic companies participated in online B2Bs with Arab importers in late 2020. They replaced that year’s participation in Big 5 Show, a construction trade show that takes place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Think Plastic Brazil Planning and Strategy manager Carlos Moreira says that the action was supposed to be hybrid. In addition to the online meetings in 2020, there would be an in-person participation in a trade show in the Arab world in 2021. But as traveling remains a no-go for most companies due to COVID-19, it was decided that the buyer project would take place online this year.
Based on the online actions focused on Arabs, Think Plastic is optimistic with the prospects. “Some of our companies are already exporting to the UAE as a result of this action,” Moreira says on the remote activity held last year. In the B2Bs, Brazilian companies are put in touch with importers according to the product profile and the buyer’s demands.
In addition to the B2Bs, an international seminar for the Think Plastic will be part of the initiative. The topic will be the converted plastic product market in the Gulf Cooperation Council and North Africa. The seminar will take place remotely.
Think Plastic Brazil currently supports 180 Brazilian companies, and the group has gotten some good results in the global market despite the adverse market situation posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Year-to-date through May, exports from these companies fetched USD 136.5 million, up 20% from a year ago – 54,900 tonnes were shipped.
The growth is partly due to the fast strategy of adaptation to digital business in early 2020, as COVID-19 showed signs in Brazil. The plan has included creating 23 projects to be carried out online, such as training webinars for Brazilian companies, online meetings with importers to present innovations, and B2Bs.
