São Paulo – The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) reported this Tuesday (04) that Brazil exported 396,900 tons of poultry in August, down 4.6% in comparison to the same month of last year. However, the volume came in 59,800 tons above the 2018 monthly exports average.
Foreign sales generated USD 633.8 million, a drop of 7.9% over August 2017. “South Africa stood out as a main poultry importer in the month, with orders close to 40,000 tons,” said ABPA’s president, Francisco Turra, according to a statement by the association.
Exports to Arab countries totaled USD 206.9 million in the month, a decline of 12% over August of last year, according to data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC). The country shipped 133,600 tons to Arab countries, down 9.4% in the same comparison.
Year-to-date
From January to August, 2.7 million tons of poultry were shipped, a decline of 7.7% over the same period of last year. Revenues reached USD 4.31 billion, a drop of 11.8% in the same comparison.
Year-to-date, exports to Arab countries totaled USD 1.4 billion, a fall of 22.3% over 2017’s first eight months. Arab countries imported 933,500 tons, down 15.3% in the same comparison.
Turra believes that Brazilian poultry exports, overall, could reach 4.2 million tons until the end of the year.
