São Paulo – The president of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, arrived this Thursday afternoon (4) in Beirut, Lebanon, where he will remain until Saturday (6). He travelled at the invitation of the Lebanese government to represent Brazil in the 4th Meeting on the Potential of the Lebanese Diaspora, which is taking place during his stay.
The Brazilian embassy in Beirut reported that Maia and his delegation were slated to leave Brazil on Monday (1), but local appointments led to a change in his plans. Due to the postponing of the trip, the speaker missed the opening and part of the event’s first day.
The Chamber president’s press office said Maia will meet on Friday morning (5) with Michel Aoun, the president of Lebanon, and then he will have lunch with the president of the Lebanese Parliament. In the evening, he will join a cocktail reception offered by the Brazilian ambassador Jorge Geraldo Kadri.
On Saturday, Maia will attend the opening of the Brazil House in Betroun. According to the Lebanese Diaspora website, similar venues will open representing the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, and Africa.
Besides Maia, the delegation currently in Beirut comprises deputies Alexandre Baldy, César Halum, Elmar Nascimento, Hissa Abrahão, Jorge Tadeu Mudalen, Rubens Bueno, and the legislative police agent Paul Deeter. Although he is licensed from his post, Mario Heringer is also in attendance. They are scheduled to return to Brazil on Sunday (7).
