São Paulo – Jordan’s Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) handled 494 ships in 2024, marking a 49% increase compared to the previous year, with total container throughput reaching 848,000 containers, according to the state news agency Petra.
Speaking at a press conference, ACT CEO Harald Nijhof attributed this growth to the directives of King Abdullah II and the follow-up by Crown Prince Al Hussein, which have significantly contributed to the modernization and development of the terminal’s infrastructure.
Nijhof also mentioned innovations, including the upcoming arrival of a state-of-the-art quay crane in April and the introduction of 10 electric trucks, as part of its sustainability initiatives. The port aims to reduce carbon emissions by 65% by 2030 and achieve full carbon neutrality by 2040.
Social actions
In addition to its environmental strategy, ACT also focuses on corporate social responsibility, supporting over 70,000 beneficiaries through initiatives targeting students, schools, low-income families, and public safety.
