Brasília – Federal, state and local governments saw a BRL 15.312 billion (USD 3.782 billion) primary deficit in November, the Central Bank of Brazil (BC) reported this Monday (30). The result was better than a year ago, when it stood at BRL 15.601 billion (USD 3.853).
Last October, federal, state and local governments posted a primary surplus of BRL 9.444 billion (USD 2.333 billion). Year-to-date through October saw a primary deficit of BRL 48.359 billion (USD 11.944 billion) from BRL 67.125 billion (USD 16.578 billion) a year ago.
In the 12 months through October, primary deficit stood at BRL 89.492 billion (USD 22.103 billion), which accounts for 1.24% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The federal, state and local governments’ target is a primary deficit of BRL 132 billion (USD 33 billion) in 2019.
In November, the nominal deficit, made up by the primary result plus interests, stood at BRL 53.157 billion (USD 13.129 billion). Year-to-date through November, it reached BRL 390.721 billion (USD 96.499 billion) from BRL 419.400 billion (USD 103,582 billion) a year ago.
