São Paulo – Printmaking studio Elaiá in Blumenau, Santa Catarina is shipping product to two Arab countries: Sudan and Morocco. Sales are going on for at least six months now, as a result of contacts made at an international exhibition.
According to Elaiá commercial director and owner Bruno Hansen, the company got several orders from Sudan and Morocco. The studio has three buyers in Morocco and two in Sudan.
Hansen explains that the clients are textile mills that make traditional Arab outfits. They buy prints off Elaiá’s standard portfolio.
Exports make up 65% of the company’s total sales. Hansen says he opened Elaiá with the international market in mind. The studio sells to over 20 countries in Europe, North and Latin America, plus Sudan and Morocco in North Africa.
The company broke into foreign markets by going to Première Vision industry shows in the United States and France. The show happens three times a year in the US and twice in France. Elaiá has been a regular since its first six months in business.
Hansen tells that the past 24 months saw exports outgrow domestic deals. “I see this growth as natural,” he says. He plans on selling to more Arab countries. “There’s nothing stopping us,” he claims.
The studio opened three years ago, once Hansen realized there was a market. Formerly involved in other textile industry businesses, he realized that Brazilian design was highly regarded in other countries, and not so much within Brazil, and that prompted him to start Elaiá.
The company designs prints for both fabric and clothing manufacturers. It has also encountered demand from industries including decór, bed, bath and linen, flooring, footwear, etc.
Elaiá prints can be artistic, photograph-based or however buyers wish. The studio creates signature collections as well as custom-made to order prints following clients’ directions or themes of choice.
The studio’s team of professionals includes fashion designers, graphic designers, and journalists.
