São Paulo – Representatives from companies and industry-specific organizations will convene for a seminar next Tuesday (10) to look into how the private sector can seize the opportunities arising from president Jair Bolsonaro’s tour of Arab countries last October. The event will take place at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce headquarters in São Paulo, and registration is open.
The Arab Chamber is hosting the seminar alongside the Brazilian Defense and Security Material Industries Association (Abimde), but the event is open to any business or entity interested in participating in the mission follow-up activities. Government officials are also expected to attend.
Bolsonaro toured the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia in late October, alongside a delegation of businesspeople and some ministers. He was welcomed by top-tier authorities in each of the countries, and agreements were reached concerning multiple sectors, ranging from a visa waiver with Qatar to energy industry cooperation and mutual customs assistance with the UAE. Saudi Arabia announced its willingness to invest in Brazil.
“These are important, key countries. We have verified that since early this year, they are more and more interested in Brazil, in figuring out the market and finding companies that have the synergy to build partnerships. We have welcomed delegations from both the public and private sectors in those countries,” said Arab Chamber Institutional Relations manager Fernanda Baltazar.
Baltazar notes that the three countries will host events in years to come, and opportunities are available. “The UAE are hosting Expo 2020, Saudi Arabia is hosting the G20 Summit, and Qatar is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup,” says the manager. According to her, the synergy in place between these countries and Brazil can yield opportunities.
Speakers in the Tuesday event – Post-Presidential Arab Tour Seminar: Opportunities and Future Actions – will include executives from the Arab Chamber, Abimde and the federal government. The presentations will be followed by networking among attending executives.
The Arab Chamber will also enter into a memorandum of understanding with Abimde to seal an ongoing partnership that sees tandem actions and work focusing on Arab markets. Both organizations joined Jair Bolsonaro’s tour of Arab countries. The defense industry played a prominent role, and the Arab Chamber did active work in building a schedule for the businesspeople in the tour.
