Kenitra, Morocco – On Thursday (20), Morocco’s king Mohammed VI has opened in the commune Amer Saflia in Kenitra, a plant of the French group PSA Peugeot-Citröen. Its initial production capacity is 100,000 cars per year, a volume set to reach 200,000 units by 2023. The information is from the news agency MAP. Four thousand jobs are expected to be created.
The plant is at a free zone at a central hub of a car industry productive chain complex. The vehicles will have a local integration rate of 60% as a start and 80% by the end of the project.
According to MAP, 27 industries from ten different countries are already installed in Kenitra as suppliers for the PSA group. The place also features a research and development center that employs 2,300 people, 85% of which are engineers.
According to Morocco’s minister of Industry and Trade Moulay Hafid Elalami, the French manufacturer invested DH 3 billion (USD 311 million) in the enterprise and intends to invest more in the country. Last year alone, the company purchased EUR 700 million (USD 790 million) worth in parts produced in Morocco.
