São Paulo – Qatar will close its borders for visitors who are not in country to watch the FIFA World Cup from November 1 to December 23, 2022, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) announced on Wednesday (21).
The controls for entry and exit to and from the Gulf state include the country’s air, land and marine borders. Exempted from this decision are Qatari citizens, residents and Gulf Cooperation Council citizens holding a Qatari ID card. Also exempted from this decision are holders of personal recruitment visas, and work entry permits.
The decision is part of the efforts of the Qatari authorities to ensure more security and safety for entering and exiting the country during the football championship. According to FIFA, 2,45 million tickets have been sold.
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior also indicated that holders of the Hayya Cards will be allowed entry to the country starting from November 1, 2022, until December 23, 2022. However, they are allowed to stay in the country until January 23, 2023.
