São Paulo – The 2022 FIFA World Cup, to kick off on November 20 in Qatar, has already sold 2.45 million tickets, according to information released by the International Football Federation (FIFA) this Thursday (18). The number was released less than one hundred days before the start of the competition. Pictured above, an external view of the Lusail stadium, to host World Cup matches.
FIFA reported Qatar, the United States, England, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, France, Argentina, Brazil, and Germany are leading ticket purchases. It will be the first World Cup in an Arab country and the Middle East.
According to the federation, in the last ticket sales period alone, which was from July 5 to August 16, 520,532 tickets were sold. The largest amount of tickets allocated was for group stage matches such as Cameroon vs Brazil, Brazil vs Serbia, Portugal vs Uruguay, Costa Rica vs Germany, and Australia vs Denmark. In this period, tickets were sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
FIFA advises fans who already have tickets purchased to start planning their trip as soon as possible, booking accommodation if they live outside of Qatar, and requesting their Hayya, a fan ID, via the qatar2022.qa website or the Hayya to Qatar 2022 app. With tickets and the Hayya, fans can access benefits such as free public transport to the games.
According to FIFA, the launch date of the last-minute ticket sales phase will be communicated from the end of September. The organization asks fans to keep an eye on its website: fifa.com/tickets. The final sales phase will run until the end of the tournament, and tickets will be on sale on a first-come, first-served basis and confirmed immediately upon payment.
