São Paulo – Sudan and Egypt agreed to build a 609-km railway connecting their territories, Egypt Independent – the English version of newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm– reported online this Thursday (25).
In Sudan, the tracks will start from Abu Hamad, in the West of the country, on to the border with Egypt. In Egypt, the railway will link Aswan, in the South, to the Sudanese border. In Aswan, train connections are already in place with major Egyptian cities.
The deal was reached three months after Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Sudan, on which occasion the project was announced.
Egypt will be tasked with carrying out feasibility and environmental/social impact studies and calculating passenger demand.
