São Paulo – Brazilian companies intending to participate as importers in Food Africa, a food show in Cairo from December 12 to 14, must register with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) by October 31. The institution is convening interested parties, supporting the Egyptian Economic & Commercial Office in São Paulo. Applicants could be selected for the show’s Hosted Buyer Program, which entitles them to benefits such as hotel accommodation during the show.
According to information disclosed by the office, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Egypt, in cooperation with the event organizers and an association that brings together food exporters in the country, would like to receive importers from different segments, such as fruits, especially dates; and frozen foods, chocolates, cheeses, vegetables, and other products. Food Africa is organized by the IFP Group and Konzept.
The selection to participate in the Hosted Buyer Program is made according to the buyers’ profile and the definition of the benefits they will enjoy. The program ranges from offering a three-night stay in a five-star hotel in Cairo to transfer from the airport to the hotel, transfer between the hotel and the show, access to the show’s buyers lounge, meetings with exhibitors chosen by the importer, among other benefits. Interested parties must submit a completed form to the ABCC (contact information below).
Food Africa is the largest international show specializing in food and agribusiness on the African continent and is considered a gateway to markets in the region. It will take place at the Egypt International Exhibition Center and will have exhibitors from sectors such as bakery, animal proteins, pastries, sauces, snacks, fruits, vegetables, grains, cereals, seasonings, dairies, oils, organic and dietetic foods, teas, and coffees.
Parallel events will also be organized within Food Africa, such as a show on packaging and processing, another focused on ingredients, one on seafood and fish, and one dedicated to dates. Live cooking shows and conferences with experts discussing trends in the food sector are planned.

Despite Brazil being a major supplier of food products to Egypt, the Egyptians also export food to Brazil. From January to September this year, most shipments from Egypt to Brazil were fertilizers. Still, the Arab country also sold vegetables, citrus fruits, anise seeds, and garlic to the Brazilian market. The Egyptians exported about USD 400 million in goods to Brazil in total.
Egypt has a free trade agreement with Mercosur, which came into force in 2017 and gives trade between the two regions exemptions or reductions in tariffs. Many food sector products are part of the agreement.
